The Showrunner Reveals He Has a Plan for How His Sci-Fi Series Will End... Currently.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would become a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the acclaimed series coming to an end—and a second season officially in the works—the writers' room recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Fan Response

Anyone might to get distracted by the rampant praise and fan theories regarding Pluribus. He is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Finale of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team are not listening by public opinion, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… in a way.

“There are some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to throw out a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, why mess with the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
